Business loan calculator

Move the slider and pick a term to see what you would repay each month, what it costs in total, and how much of that is interest.

What would it cost?

No credit check, and nothing here is sent anywhere until you choose to enquire.

About £1,118 to £1,326 a month

Total to repay

Clear it early and you pay less interest. Several of our lenders charge nothing to settle early, and we will tell you which before you sign.

What's it for?

No credit check, and enquiring leaves no mark on your credit file.

Rates run from 6.9% to 24.3% a year over two years or more, and 2% to 5.75% a month for shorter terms. These figures are indicative. They are not a quote, and nothing is final until a lender has processed your application and made you an offer. This is an illustration, not an offer. Final rates depend on the lender's assessment of your business and you may be offered different terms.

Why the rate changes with the term

Most calculators quote one rate whatever you pick. That is wrong at one end, because short and long money are priced completely differently.

  • Up to 12 months

Priced per month, typically 2% to 5.75% a month, which compounds to roughly 27% to 96% a year. Short money costs a great deal more for every pound you borrow.

  • Two years and longer

Priced as a true annual rate on the reducing balance, typically 6.9% to 24.3% a year.

We show the whole published range rather than the cheapest end of it, because most businesses are not offered the cheapest end. Where you land depends on your accounts, your sector and your payment history.

The same loan over every term

Your amount across the terms we lend over, from the cheapest to the dearest end of the published range. The row you picked is highlighted, and it all updates as you move the slider.

Indicative ranges across our panel: 2% to 5.75% a month up to 12 months, and 6.9% to 24.3% a year beyond that. These are not a quote, and nothing is final until a lender has processed your application and made you an offer.

The bit worth knowing

A longer term is not the same as a cheaper one

  • Stretching it lowers the monthly, not the cost

£50,000 over 24 months costs about £3,673 in interest at the cheapest end of the range, or £13,625 at the dearest. The same £50,000 over 60 months drops the monthly payment, but the interest rises to roughly £9,262 at the cheapest end and £36,827 at the dearest, because you are paying it for three more years.

  • Except across the 12-month line, where it can reverse

Anything up to 12 months is priced per month, and that is dearer. So a £25,000 deal over 12 months can cost more in interest than the same £25,000 over 24 months, even though it runs for half as long. Worth checking both before you choose.

  • Paying it off early changes that

Borrow over 24 months, clear it in nine because a big invoice lands, and you have paid interest for nine months rather than twenty-four. Use the slider to see it: the total is what you pay only if you run the full term.

  • Which is why a facility can beat a loan

If you need money for weeks at a time rather than years, a credit line charges you for the weeks you use it. A higher headline rate can still cost you fewer pounds.

FAQ

Questions about the figures

Is this an offer?

No. It is an illustration built from the lowest rates published on our panel, so you can see roughly what a deal of that size and length looks like. Only a lender can make you an offer, and it may be priced differently.

Will using it affect my credit score?

No. The calculator runs in your browser and sends nothing anywhere. Enquiring does not involve a credit check either, so it leaves no mark on your file. A lender will search you only once you decide to apply, and we will tell you before that happens.

Why does a monthly rate look so much higher?

Because it is measured over a month rather than a year. 2% a month is not 2% a year: compounded it is about 27% a year. It is not a trick, it is just a different unit, which is why we show you the total in pounds as well.

Can I repay early and pay less?

On most of the facilities we arrange, yes, and it normally reduces what you pay overall. A few lenders price the interest in up front, so settling early saves less. We check it for your specific lender rather than promise it in general.

Does the total include fees?

Not yet, because fees vary by lender. Some charge an arrangement or documentation fee, which we will show you in pounds alongside the interest before you commit to anything.

How much can I actually borrow?

Our panel runs from £1,000 to £500,000 for cash flow lending, but what you are offered depends on turnover, trading history and whether there is security. Larger farm facilities go further: see farm finance.
