Cash flow finance
for Leeds businesses

For a Leeds limited company or LLP the usual answer to a cash gap is a revolving credit line or invoice finance, and Flowzo can put either in front of you, from £1,000 to £500,000. Our registered address is in Tadcaster, north-east of the city, but we work entirely by phone and online and keep no premises in Leeds.

No credit check to enquire.

29,830 Leeds businesses, split by sector

The city has grown by about 490 registered enterprises in a year. One in six is a professional or technical firm, the biggest group by some way.

  • 1,210 legal and accounting practices. That is about one and a half times the UK share, and it is a trade that carries months of unbilled time before an invoice ever goes out.
  • 555 employment agencies. Recruitment is 1.7 times as common here as it is nationally, which makes the weekly-payroll problem a Leeds problem.
  • 24,485 companies. 82% of the base is incorporated; there are also 3,390 sole proprietors and 935 partnerships.
The pinch points

Why Leeds firms run short, sector by sector

  • Time worked long before it is billed

Law firms, accountants and consultancies fund their work in progress themselves. A matter can run for months before the fee note, and then the client takes its terms. A credit line sized to that lock-up, drawn and cleared as bills are paid, suits a practice better than a lump-sum loan.

  • Agencies pay contractors every Friday

With 555 recruiters in the city, many are funding a temp payroll weekly against clients paying in 30 to 60 days. Each new placement widens the gap. Invoice finance grows with the ledger; our recruitment page covers the clauses that matter.

  • Builders buy materials before the valuation

Construction is 12.9% of Leeds businesses, a little under the UK figure of 14.1%. Stage payments, retention and contractors paying late are the usual story, and our construction page is frank about which finance will and will not take an application for payment.

  • Support services sit in the middle of the chain

Cleaning, security and facilities firms, 2,600 of them, pay staff before their contract customers pay them. A ledger of large, steady customers is exactly what an invoice finance provider wants to see.

Free support across West Yorkshire

Leeds sits inside the West Yorkshire Combined Authority area, which means its public business support is organised across five districts rather than the city alone.

What Flowzo does for a Leeds company

Being nearby changes very little in practice. Lenders on our panel decide on your bank statements, accounts and, where it applies, your debtor ledger, and every one of them works remotely. What we add is knowing which of them will look at a practice with heavy work in progress, an agency with one dominant client, or a contractor with retention outstanding, before you spend a week on the wrong application.

For most Leeds enquiries the choice is between a credit line and invoice finance. A one-off purchase or a defined project is better as an unsecured loan, and this guide lays the options side by side. Vehicles and plant are arranged by our sister company CW Asset Finance, not out of working capital.

Sole traders and ordinary partnerships are outside the cash flow panel, which was built for incorporated firms; the detail is here.

FAQ

Common questions

Can a Leeds law firm borrow against work in progress?

Not directly with most lenders, because unbilled time is not yet a debt. What works is a revolving facility sized on the practice’s billing history, drawn while matters run and cleared as fees are paid. Some lenders will also advance against fee notes once issued.

How big does a Leeds recruitment agency need to be for invoice finance?

There is no headcount bar. What matters is a ledger of creditworthy clients, clean timesheets and not too much of it owed by one customer. A young agency with good clients can be a better case than its accounts suggest.

Do you meet clients in Leeds?

We do not hold meetings in the city and have no premises there. Calls, video and a secure upload cover everything a lender needs.

Is the Northern Powerhouse fund open to Leeds companies?

Yes, the British Business Bank says it covers the whole of the North. It works through fund managers, takes longer than a commercial facility and suits businesses that struggle to raise elsewhere, so it is worth asking alongside us, not instead.

Can a Leeds construction firm use a credit line instead of invoice finance?

Often, yes. A revolving facility is sized on turnover and how the account is run rather than on certified applications, which sidesteps the problem of applications not counting as invoices. Expect the directors to be asked for a personal guarantee.
